THE Quick starter

A ONE DAY INTENSIVE

Covering all the basics from machine switch on, to your first zip and buttonhole!

Ideal for absolute beginners or those who have had a long break from sewing and need a refresher.

We will look at:

  • Your Machine, it’s workings and basic maintenance

  • Threading & Needles + sizes & Changing

  • Winding & Inserting/changing a bobbin

  • Tension, stitch length /stitch selection

  • You will sew stitch samplers and a mini stitch library for future reference

  • Sample a few types of seam, and when to use them

  • Master topstitching and sew a pocket

  • Garment fastenings: Sew buttonholes, elastication & your first zip!

Tea, coffee & biccies provided, but please do bring your own packed lunch

***Please ensure your Sewing machine is in good working order.

you will need:

  • Your own (working) sewing machine (Don’t forget the lead & pedal )

  • Its’ manual, tools and accessories (presser feet)

  • At least two bobbins

  • Two reels of bright coloured thread (Coats ‘Moon’ thread is ok for sampling)

  • Pins, a tape measure and some thread snips

You will make a useful item to take home, using the skills you’ve learned.

All pre-cut sampling, fabrics and notions included.

The 5 week starter course

THE SEWING DEEP DIVE

Covering all the basics from THE QUICK STARTER, and much more!

Five sessions, over five weeks

Also Ideal for newbies and refreshers - very popular with those coming into dressmaking from quilting, or from those who are largely self taught, to fill knowledge gaps or confirm if they’re doing things the right way.

We will look at everything from the Quick Starter, plus:

  • Additional stitches and where to use them

  • Additional seam types

  • Three styles of pocket

  • Three styles of zip insertion

  • You will make a wearable item, using the skills you have gained through the course

As usual tea, coffee & biccies provided

***Please ensure your Sewing machine is in good working condition.


‘get to know’ sessions

for over lockers and sewing machines. investigate settings, tensions and practise stitches

A two hour workshop, looking in depth at your machine, basic maintenance, it’s tools settings, presser feet and stitches.

We will sew a little stitch library and run through three seam types, two hems, a buttonhole and a simple sample zip.

KIT LIST:

  • Your own (working) sewing machine (Don’t forget the lead & pedal )

  • Its’ manual, tools and accessories (presser feet, screwdriver etc) ***you will need a zipper foot

  • At least two bobbins - empty if possible

  • Two reels of bright coloured thread (Coats ‘Moon’ thread is ok for sampling)

A two hour workshop, looking in depth at your machine, basic maintenance, it’s tools settings, needles, threading and tension.

We will sew examples of seam finishing, hemming, neck bindings, cuffs and plackets.


I guarantee you’ll come on leaps and bounds and have fun along the way. Whatever level your sewing skills you’ll be thrilled with Tracy’s sewing classes. For beginners she takes you a step at a time at the pace you need. For the more advanced, you couldn’t be in better hands. Trust me, you will love every minute of these classes.
